Peripheral neuropathy affects millions of Americans, causing pain, numbness, and weakness that can significantly impact daily life. At Lighthouse Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Dr. Don Pham provides comprehensive neuropathy treatment options designed to address both symptoms and underlying causes of nerve damage.
Understanding the different approaches to treating peripheral neuropathy empowers patients to make informed decisions about their care. Treatment success often depends on early intervention, accurate diagnosis, and a personalized approach that combines multiple therapeutic strategies.
Broward County residents seeking effective neuropathy management benefit from evidence-based treatments that target the root causes of nerve dysfunction while providing symptom relief and preventing further complications.
Effective neuropathy treatment requires a multifaceted approach that addresses both immediate symptoms and underlying health conditions. The most successful treatment plans combine medical interventions with lifestyle modifications and supportive therapies.
Treating the Underlying Cause forms the foundation of neuropathy management. Dr. Don Pham at Lighthouse Medical Center emphasizes controlling conditions that contribute to nerve damage, such as diabetes management through blood sugar stabilization, infection treatment, and nutritional deficiency correction.
Medication Management provides essential symptom relief through various drug classes. Pain relievers, anti-seizure medications, and certain antidepressants can significantly reduce neuropathic pain and improve quality of life for patients in Pompano Beach and surrounding areas.
Therapeutic Interventions include physical therapy for strength and balance improvement, occupational therapy for daily task adaptation, acupuncture for pain management, and electrical stimulation techniques that can provide targeted relief.
Lifestyle Modifications play a crucial role in neuropathy management and prevention. Maintaining healthy nutrition, regular exercise, alcohol cessation, smoking avoidance, and proper foot care protect against further nerve damage while supporting overall health.
Successful neuropathy treatment begins with identifying and addressing the root cause of nerve damage. Different underlying conditions require targeted therapeutic approaches for optimal outcomes.
Diabetes represents the leading cause of peripheral neuropathy in the United States. Poorly controlled blood sugar levels damage peripheral nerves over time, causing progressive symptoms that can be slowed or prevented through aggressive glucose management.
Maintaining stable blood sugar levels through diet modification, regular exercise, and appropriate medication use can slow diabetic neuropathy progression. Some patients experience symptom improvement when blood glucose control reaches target ranges consistently over months.
Dr. Don Pham works closely with diabetic patients in Broward County to develop comprehensive glucose management strategies that protect nerve health while addressing existing neuropathy symptoms through additional treatment modalities.
Nutritional neuropathies result from deficiencies in essential vitamins, particularly B vitamins (B1, B6, B12) and vitamin E. These vitamins support nerve function, and their deficiency can cause reversible nerve damage when caught early.
Vitamin B12 deficiency commonly causes peripheral neuropathy, especially in older adults, vegetarians, and patients with absorption disorders. Supplementation can often reverse nerve damage and eliminate symptoms when started promptly.
B6 deficiency neuropathy responds well to supplementation, though excessive B6 intake can paradoxically cause neuropathy. Proper dosing and monitoring ensure safe and effective treatment outcomes.
Certain infections cause peripheral neuropathy through direct nerve damage or immune system responses. Lyme disease, HIV, hepatitis C, and other infections require specific antimicrobial treatments to address underlying causes.
Early antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease can prevent or reverse neuropathy symptoms. HIV-related neuropathy may improve with antiretroviral therapy and specific neuropathy medications.
Lighthouse Medical Center provides comprehensive infectious disease evaluation and treatment for patients experiencing neuropathy symptoms related to suspected infections.
Physical therapy represents a cornerstone of comprehensive neuropathy treatment, addressing functional limitations while reducing fall risk and improving overall quality of life.
Neuropathy often leads to muscle weakness and movement difficulties that progressive physical therapy can address. Specialized exercise programs target affected muscles, improve flexibility, and increase range of motion through gradual progression.
Therapeutic exercises designed specifically for neuropathy patients focus on maintaining muscle strength in areas affected by nerve damage. Regular participation in structured physical therapy can prevent muscle atrophy and preserve functional capacity.
Balance training becomes particularly important for patients with sensory neuropathy, where loss of position sense increases fall risk. Physical therapists design specific balance exercises that improve stability and confidence in movement.
Physical therapists employ various techniques to manage neuropathic pain, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, heat application, cold therapy, and electrical stimulation. These non-pharmacological approaches can reduce pain intensity while improving function.
Electrical stimulation techniques, such as TENS units, provide pain relief by interfering with pain signal transmission. Many patients find these modalities helpful as adjuncts to medication management.
Dr. Don Pham frequently refers Pompano Beach patients to skilled physical therapists who specialize in neuropathy treatment, ensuring coordinated care that maximizes therapeutic benefits.
Pharmaceutical interventions play a vital role in neuropathy symptom management, particularly for pain, tingling, and burning sensations that can significantly impact daily functioning.
Several medication classes effectively treat neuropathic pain through different mechanisms of action. Anti-seizure medications like gabapentin and pregabalin specifically target nerve pain and are often first-line treatments for neuropathy.
Tricyclic antidepressants, including amitriptyline and nortriptyline, provide pain relief at lower doses than required for depression treatment. These medications work by altering neurotransmitter levels that affect pain perception.
Topical medications, such as lidocaine patches and capsaicin creams, provide localized pain relief without systemic side effects. These options work well for patients who cannot tolerate oral medications or prefer localized treatment.
Choosing appropriate neuropathy medications requires careful consideration of symptom type, severity, patient age, other health conditions, and potential drug interactions. Treatment often begins with one medication, with additions or substitutions based on response and tolerance.
Regular monitoring ensures medication effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Some medications require gradual dose increases to achieve optimal benefit while avoiding adverse reactions.
Lighthouse Medical Center patients benefit from Dr. Don Pham's experience in neuropathy medication management, with regular follow-up appointments to optimize treatment regimens based on individual response patterns.
Comprehensive neuropathy care extends beyond pharmaceutical interventions to include various therapeutic modalities that address different aspects of nerve dysfunction and symptom management.
Occupational therapists help neuropathy patients adapt to functional limitations through strategy development and assistive device recommendations. These interventions focus on maintaining independence in daily activities despite nerve damage.
Fine motor skill preservation becomes particularly important for patients with hand neuropathy. Occupational therapists teach adaptive techniques and recommend tools that make tasks like writing, cooking, and self-care easier and safer.
Home safety assessments identify fall risks and recommend modifications that reduce injury potential for patients with balance problems related to sensory neuropathy.
Acupuncture has shown promise in neuropathy pain management, with some studies suggesting significant pain reduction for certain patients. This traditional Chinese medicine technique may work through endorphin release and pain pathway modulation.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) provides non-invasive pain relief through electrode placement on affected areas. Low-voltage electrical currents can temporarily block pain signals and provide symptom relief.
Specialized treatments like plasma exchange and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) benefit patients with inflammatory neuropathies, where immune system dysfunction causes nerve damage.
Positive lifestyle modifications significantly impact neuropathy progression and symptom severity while supporting overall nerve health and preventing complications.
A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provides essential nutrients that support nerve function and repair. Antioxidants from colorful fruits and vegetables may help protect nerves from further damage.
Limiting processed foods, unhealthy fats, and excessive sugar reduces inflammation throughout the body, potentially slowing neuropathy progression. Anti-inflammatory dietary patterns may provide additional nerve protection benefits.
Adequate protein intake supports nerve repair processes, while complex carbohydrates provide steady energy without blood sugar spikes that can worsen diabetic neuropathy.
Regular physical activity improves blood circulation to peripheral nerves while strengthening muscles and maintaining flexibility. Walking, swimming, and cycling provide excellent cardiovascular benefits without excessive joint stress.
Exercise helps maintain healthy weight, reduces diabetes risk, and improves blood sugar control in diabetic patients. These benefits directly support nerve health and may slow neuropathy progression.
Patients in Pompano Beach can take advantage of year-round outdoor activity opportunities, with walking programs and swimming particularly beneficial for neuropathy management.
Alcohol cessation becomes crucial for neuropathy patients, as alcohol directly damages peripheral nerves and interferes with vitamin absorption necessary for nerve health. Even moderate alcohol consumption can worsen existing neuropathy.
Smoking cessation improves blood flow to peripheral nerves and supports overall vascular health. Tobacco use constricts blood vessels, reducing oxygen and nutrient delivery to damaged nerves.
Stress management through meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques can reduce pain perception and improve overall well-being for neuropathy patients.
Surgery becomes a consideration for peripheral neuropathy when conservative treatments fail to provide adequate relief or when specific anatomical problems cause nerve compression that surgical intervention can address.
Nerve compression syndromes like carpal tunnel syndrome and tarsal tunnel syndrome can cause neuropathy symptoms that respond well to surgical decompression. These procedures release pressure on compressed nerves, often providing significant symptom relief.
Surgical timing becomes important, as prolonged nerve compression can lead to permanent damage. Early intervention often produces better outcomes than delayed surgery after extensive nerve damage has occurred.
Recovery from decompression surgery typically involves temporary activity restrictions followed by physical therapy to restore strength and function. Most patients experience gradual improvement over several months.
Nerve repair procedures address traumatic nerve injuries through surgical reconnection of severed nerve ends or nerve grafting to bridge gaps in damaged nerves. These complex procedures require specialized microsurgical techniques.
Tumor removal may be necessary when growths compress nerves and cause neuropathy symptoms. Surgical excision of nerve-compressing tumors can provide dramatic symptom relief when the tumor is the primary cause.
Neurolysis involves freeing nerves from scar tissue or adhesions that restrict nerve function. This procedure can improve nerve mobility and reduce pain in selected patients.
Dr. Don Pham carefully evaluates surgical candidates at Lighthouse Medical Center, ensuring appropriate patient selection and coordinating care with specialized surgeons when surgical intervention becomes necessary.
What causes peripheral neuropathy? Peripheral neuropathy results from various conditions including diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, infections, autoimmune diseases, medications, toxins, and inherited disorders. Diabetes represents the most common cause in the United States.
How long does neuropathy treatment take to work? Treatment response varies depending on the underlying cause and severity of nerve damage. Some patients notice improvement within weeks, while others may require months of consistent treatment. Early intervention generally produces better outcomes.
Can neuropathy be reversed? Neuropathy reversal depends on the underlying cause and extent of nerve damage. Nutritional deficiencies and some infections may cause reversible neuropathy, while conditions like diabetes typically require ongoing management to prevent progression.
What medications work best for neuropathy pain? Effective neuropathy medications include anti-seizure drugs like gabapentin and pregabalin, tricyclic antidepressants, and topical treatments. Medication selection depends on individual symptoms, other health conditions, and patient tolerance.
When should I consider surgery for neuropathy? Surgical treatment becomes appropriate when conservative treatments fail to provide adequate relief and when specific anatomical problems like nerve compression can be surgically corrected. Most neuropathy cases respond well to non-surgical treatments.

Till I met John, he has taken his time and helped me reached my goals. I lost 50lbs in areas I didn’t think was possible. I’m forever Grateful for your support and help. I made the goal in 4 months! Lighthouse Medical Center helped me with neuropathy reversal. I was losing feeling in my feet, but their treatment plan really worked. The staff was nice and explained everything clearly.
I really researched a lot of different places for my neuropathy condition I've had for over ten years. I went to three neurologist and two other primary care doctors before LHMC. The Lighthouse Medical staff was the most thorough in their testing and examination process to determine how beat to help me with my condition of nerve degeneration with numbness and tingling in my feet and calves. They did through bloodwork, genetic testing, changed my diet, used peptide therapy and regenerative medicine with Advanced Platelet Therapy to help aid the recovery of the damaged tissue in my legs. Everything was top notch from the therapist to the management to the doctors and nurse practitioners. I lost 30 pounds on their weightloss program and my bloodwork improved immensely along with my blood pressure and neuropathy symptoms over a few months. I couldn't be happier with the care I received and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking a medical provider who gets to the root cause of the problem and doesn't prescribe pills and surgery for every condition. A+++++++ rating
Staff was very nice and took great CD re in ensuring I was seen promptly for my condition of peripheral neuropathy. Treatment was remedied quickly and effectively. Great practice for those seeking neuropathy care. They treated me like I was family. Thanks Lighthouse Medical Team!
Lighthouse Medical Center and the entire staff provide excellent health care. From the clerical staff, Janell, to physical therapy technicians , Yago, to the doctors , John, they are all professionals and experts in their field. They have state of the art medical equipment and I have experienced improvements with neuropathy treatments, weight loss and overall well being via their regenerative medicine procedures.
My first visit to the clinic was in early January and from the very first moment I felt like I was in good hands. I have been dealing with knee and hip issues for several years and was always told I need replacement surgery. After a very comprehensive exam, x-rays, bloodwork etc John and the team put together a detailed treatment plan. We did PRP, physio treatments, a diet and exercise plan, and No surgery! I was given a very targeted regiment of vitamins and supplements based on needs seen from the bloodwork and threw a cupboard full of Costco vitamins and supplements in the garbage. My body was not absorbing them and I’m sure like many people taking them just because I thought it was the right thing to do. I feel terrific, the pain is gone, my mobility is coming back (more exercise and stretching to do) and my energy levels are great. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and most important, knowledgeable. I fly down from Canada for my treatments, bypassing our “free” Canadian health care program and use LHMC for just about all my healthcare needs. Couldn’t recommend them more. Actually I did. My wife and 2 sons have gone to see John just for overall health checks, blood work and genetic testing. Thank you LHMC team.
I have been having a knee treatment with them for 5 months and they are amazing I do recommend them 😉
I was referred to Dr. Jason by a friend and I'm so glad I made the appointment! This office is absolutely amazing from the staff to the equipment they have at their facility. I was seen for a torn meniscus in my knee along with other issues that have been keeping me in pain every day. After a very thorough visit with the doctor, I decided to go ahead with PRP and Stem Cells injection along with physical therapy. After a week since the first injection, I am feeling positive results with not having that daily pain! I highly recommend visiting their office if you are someone who has dealt with pain way too long like I have! I wish I would have done this much sooner!
Dr Jason is very knowledgeable and identifies your issues right away to get you back on track. The whole staff is very cheerful and helpful.
Absolutely love how much healing and therapeutic resources LMC provides. My favorite is the PRP, knee on track and stem cell procedures! The office staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and kind. Highly recommended!
I came here for peripheral neuropathy issues I've had for several years. Numbness, bad burning, tingling, pain and bad balance issues. I've had several falls and now use a cane. I wasn't expecting much when I came here to Lighthouse Medical Center, but they have great reviews so I tried them. I've been to several other "Neuropathy" treatment clinics and several board certified Neurologist all of whom wrote me off and just told me to live with my condition. At best they provided medications that have caused side effects. All I can say is my wife and I have been thoroughly impressed by the staff and team of Doctors and Nurses here. I have received treatment for about a month and my symptoms are already substantially improved. I received really thorough care with stem cell therapy, advanced platelet therapy, extensive bloodwork, diagnostic testing, and very knowledgeable medical providers and staff. I have improved at least 30% in my symptoms and balance since my first stem cell and platelet therapy. The best part is most of my therapy is done at home. I am so grateful for this place and their staff. They treat me like family not like a love minute patient at all my other doctors offices. If you have neuropathy, you should call them and have them evaluate your case immediately. I was so tired of living in my condition and was depressed but faithful God would provide me help and He has with LHMC! Praise God and these medical providers!
Best chiropractor I’ve been to ! After an x-ray was taken Dr.Jason thoroughly discussed with me the what needed to be worked on and how we were going to fix my back and neck issues. Thanks to him I am aware of why I’ve been having soo much pain.
Love lighthouse medical. They have help so much with my knee pain. I recommend the stem cells . They really work. And the program I’m on with the pure methylated vitamins. . They have the best equipment. Love Dr Jon and Dr Jason
I came in with severe knee pain do to a twisting injury. The pain was in the range of an 8. After numerous treatments and therapy, I have virtually no pain at all. I sincerely thank the staff for their diligence in working to bring my knee to where it's at now.
This place has changed my life. Ive only been a patients here for about a month and a half and noticing big differences in my health. I have severe migraines that 4 neurologists could not help me with. I come here, pay for some tests and get special vitamins made for me, hormones, and now I’m not shaking on the floor for 6 hours. These guys got me dialed in, back to gaining weight and feeling great!
Dr Jason and his team are great. When I first arrived I was in such pain and I can’t believe that now I am not. Thank you all.
Neuropathy treatment care here is amazing! I saw major improvements in my numbness, burning, tingling, balance, and pain symptoms within one week of my first tissue therapy. The staff treats me so sweetly. I was scared I would have Neuropathy forever and now after four months it’s 80 percent gone. Very impressed and I am a very skeptical person. They have surpassed my expectations and the Doctors and Nurse practitioners are all so professional and knowledgeable. They educated me on everything that I needed to have done and actually got to the root cause of my nerve tissue damage! Do not hesitate to call and have them help you. I had seen five neurologist before going to Lighthouse Medical Center. If something’s not working see someone who thinks differently and scientifically.

5 Stars – Highly Recommend! Liz is absolutely amazing! I was in so much pain from a pinched nerve in my neck, and she helped me tremendously with dry needling. She was professional, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. I felt relief almost immediately, and I can’t thank her enough. I also want to give a shoutout to Janelle at the front desk—she was so nice and helpful! She even gave me some cream to put on my neck, which made it feel even better. The whole experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend Liz and her team to anyone dealing with neck pain!
Amazing amount of knowledge, skill and technology in this office!!! Very friendly and informative as well!! 🙂
I received physical therapy from this office. Dr. Jason is a very good Dr. He is knowledgeable and he cares about his patients. The physical therapist assistant. Ruby is very loving and caring.I definitely would recommend this practice to a friend or family member.
I arrived at the clinic in a very bad way. I was unable - among other things - to turn my head to the right, I had pain in my right shoulder blade, and several small non-functional elements in my body. Despite my strong accent (because I am French-speaking) Dr. Jason immediately knew how to take care of my case. What adjustments later I am a new woman and I can now play golf and pickleball again. I will definitely continue to come see him regularly in order to "hold" my adjustments because I feel so much better.
I believe that it wasn’t by chance that I stumbled across this clinic, but that it was God that led me there. I fell in love with them on my first consultation with Dr. John. They truly do care about their patients and treat us like family, with a lot of attention and care. Dr. John and Dr. Jason truly search for root cause and not just a remedy. I had pains for over 2 years on my legs, mostly at night, so much so that I wouldn’t be able to sleep most nights. With time the pain started to prolong, showing up during the day too. With a little over two months of treatment there, I don’t even remember what the pain felt like and my life has changed completely. Everybody, from the reception to the physical therapists and doctors, are highly professional and dedicated. Thank you Dr. John, Dr. Jason, and all the staff! God bless you all.
I got hurt at the gym and I barely could move my head, my neck was very painful and my back sore. So Dr. Jason took care of me and did all the adjustments, he also gave me many recommendations to keep improving the healing. What I thought it would take me at least a week to recover, it took me only two days. I highly recommend this place!
I have developed neuropathy and I blame it on the covid shot that this government made us take they poisoned all of us.I went to many doctors for a year and a half and everybody told me they could not help me with my neuropathy neuropathy was not treatable finally after my neighbor convinced me to go to Dr Jason chesher lighthouse medical and talk to them I did and they convinced me and they could help me and I am telling you today that I am feeling so much better by going to lighthouse medical dealing with John with my neuropathy. There were days I could hardly walk now am not out of the woods completely but I see a huge difference in the treatment that I've been receiving there the injections that I've been getting there and therapy. The staff has been wonderful I am completely convinced that they do know what they're talking about and that I have seen it in results and I am a hard person to convince. So if you're having problems with neuropathy I would definitely, definitely suggest checking in with lighthouse medical they have a team there that can help you they have helped me looking forward to getting completely cured and I'm doing everything I can but they're doing everything they can too thank you to the group at lighthouse medical for helping me feel better.
